LSWB Soil Lab
Welcome to LSWB Labs. Named in honor of my four grandchildren.
This is where you order Consultation Services, Site Assessments and Soil Samples.
WHAT'S IN YOUR SOIL? Curious about your site’s soil? Soil is defined as minerals-the planet, organic matter-dead stuff, and microbes-life processing the latter. Otherwise, you’ve got dirt. The purpose of a site assessment is to quantify your microbes to determine the soil microbiome. Symptoms of an out of balance microbiome include insect, disease, & weed pressure, compaction, standing water, and run off. These symptoms are Mother Nature’s way of telling us the soil is missing some important microbes. Treating the symptoms with synthetics & toxic chemicals can co$t you and the environment and still not solve the problem. We can tell you what microbes are missing, how to add them to your soil, and how to keep them fed! Hint, Organic Matter! Among these microbes are beneficial fungi and bacteria. Different plants need different Fungal to Bacterial biomass ratios, see charts below. By balancing your soil microbiome or immune system, just like your gut microbiome, Mother Nature can restore the health of your landscape so you can enjoy it with less weed, insect and disease pressure, synthetics, or toxins! HOW, Dr. Elaine Ingham's, Soil Food Web on how it works there is a wealth of information including global case studies or revisit the soil improvement page for the particular problem you are having.
Your fungal to bacteria biomass ratio F:B is important and moves from rock to old growth forest. Most soils are bacterial dominant from removing plant biomass, over fertilization, and exposure to toxic pesticides, herbicides and fungicides that kill soil microbes. Allowing the bad microbes to take hold.
Locate the plant or area of concerned, for instance fruit tree are deciduous, to see what you F:B Ratio should be i.e. minimum 5 up to 100:1. We specialize in Fungal Dominant compost to bring the ratios into balance. Did you know Fungi is acidic and Bacteria is alkaline? In a 1:1, even ratio, your soil will be neutral pH-7.
SOIL SAMPLE $50.00 a complete microbiology count of microbes present, a fungal to bacteria biomass ratio along with a printout report emailed to you.
To take a sample:
locate 3 spots between the dip line and the stem of your plant or tree. or anywhere you want to sample - take 3
brush away surface debris
take a 3" deep core in all 3 spot
combine samples and place in baggie leave air space
write your name, phone date, location of sample in permanent ink on outside of baggie.
CALL for drop off location and timing.
SITE ASSESSMENT Introductory offer $150.00*
Assessment consists of Site Visit, Consultation and one Soil Lab Test (a microscopic microbe count including fungal to bacteria biomass)
Approximately 1 hour at site.
Conditions Recorded: time, date, temperature, weather.
Determine USDA-NRCS Soil Data, what type of dirt you have.
Question your Desires and Concerns.
Map your property landscape.
Take soil samples.
Return samples to lab and perform a soil test.
Give you a Soil Biology Report showing your sample results in comparison to the recommended range of beneficial microbes for your desired plant succession.
Give you a Site Assessment Report
Advice on how to bring your property up to ideal soil microbiology.
*Introductory Offer: Full assessment is determined by the size and location of your property. A minimum of $150.00 covers a typical 50X100 lot within 10 miles of the lab and one soil test. Total will be determined when you order. Online Payment is due prior to your appointment, PayPal or Venmo links included in your order. If you have several areas of concern for instance, a vegetable garden, deciduous trees, evergreens, an additional microbe count would be advantageous. Discuss this upon order.
